Ahly management have asked the interior ministry to raise the number of fans allowed to attend the African Champions League clash against Botswana's Township Rollers on 17 July.

The interior ministry has already given the green light for 10,000 supporters to attend Ahly's much-anticipated game on Tuesday, but the Cairo giants asked to raise that number to 25,000.

In the past five years, authorities have permitted a limited number of fans to attend African Champion League games and national team matches, as per FIFA rules.

The eight-time CAF Champions League title holders Ahly are in a tough spot in the league this season following a poor start to their group-stage campaign.

They were held to a goalless draw at home by Tunisian giants Esperance before slumping to a 2-0 loss to Uganda's Kampala City, slipping to the bottom of Group A with a solitary point from their opening two matches. Esperance lead the group with six points, followed by Kampala and Township Rollers on three each.

Ahly will finalise their preparations for the game against the Township Rollers by playing a friendly against newly promoted team in the Egyptian Premier League, Nogoom El-Mostakbal, on Thursday.
