Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani has been re-elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the IOC session held on the sidelines of the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

The Amir also participated in the meetings of the 33rd session of the IOC on Monday, which discussed a number of topics related to the development of sports and the Olympic movement at the global level.

The Amir met with IOC President Dr Thomas Bach, on the sidelines of the Youth Olympic Games.

President of Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al Thani also attended the meeting which dealt with the relations of cooperation between Qatar and the IOC and means of developing them.

Dr Bach praised the friendly relations between the two sides, and the great initiatives undertaken by Qatar in promoting the Olympic movement worldwide, including the support of the QOC to the Olympic Refuge Foundation, which was established in September last year in cooperation with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

The Amir stressed the keenness of Qatar in supporting refugees around the world by providing safe exercise facilities for those forced to leave their homes due to crises, wars, famine and other natural disasters.
